ICE CLIMBING
ICE CLIMBING
Scaling the Icy Heights
7th/8th graders
Ice Climbing *previous climbing experience required
Travel to new heights during December break with ice climbing led by Equinox Guiding Service. Hike in from the Old Carriage Road Trail to the Left Cataracts, then put on your harness and helmet and let the ice fly. You’ll learn to swing your axe, place your crampons and hone your belaying and knot tying skills.
This week is designed for a small group of Middle Schoolers who have some experience climbing and are looking forward to building their technical and teamwork skills through this new medium. Boots, axes, crampons, harnesses and helmets provided; you supply a willingness to layer up and brave the elements.
This course, which will be taught in the field, will consist of 4 hands-on training sessions (each 4 hours). The program builds the foundation of knowledge and skills that students will need to climb on ice. Equipment, knot tying, belaying, anchors, rappelling, and climbing movements are all covered in detail.
Guided by Equinox Guiding service
