WINTER ON WHEELS
WINTER 2018 | 7th & 8th Grade
This winter offering consists of 12 hands on training sessions (2 per week) that will prepare each student with the technical skills and knowledge to complete a winter hut trip on a fat bike! Participants will use fat bikes to develop the skills for expedition travel in the winter and in addition, will learn to build snow shelters, dig snow camps, and will construct the pulk sleds that will be used to transport food and equipment during the culminating expedition.
Due to the unpredictability of winter weather in coastal Maine, fat bikes have become a reliable method for self-propelled travel in the winter. Alternative activities will be developed when conditions are unsuitable for fat biking safely.
